220,000 tonnes of clothing ended up in Australian landfill last year
The clothing industry produces countless products every day each year, in 2025, Australians purchased to nearly 1.5 billion items according to Seamless. This number continues to grow each year as fast fashion continues to be a cheaper alternative for consumers and businesses alike. With a major consumption pattern becoming commonplace in spending habits and purchasing behaviours, Buckner Brand Management continues to commit to its slogan of 'Making Good Things Happen' for the environment by helping clients sustainably dispose products like uniforms and apparel when needed.
Late last year, a client had come to BBM with a problem that occurred with a major order from an external supplier. They had received hundreds of apparel items that could not be used. With a large quantity of stock and nowhere for it to go, the business did not want it all to end up in landfill as it would go against their ESG commitments. Additionally, it could also create harmful impacts for their brand if the products were seen polluting landfill with their logo. To solve this problem, BBM's warehouse team reached out to Shred-X, an Australian based company that has partnered with emerging recyclers to collect, transport, and operate the shredding and baling of fabrics ready to become new material for new clothing and other products.
In 2024, Shred-X launched its new Textura division to offer a comprehensive solution for the textile industry as a primarily B2B service to promote sustainable, circular economy processes. This solution provides a 100% landfill diversion program that efficiently and completely destroys any branded, used and unwearable clothing to ensure a secure waste management system for businesses. This way, companies don't worry about their logo being used on fake or counterfeit products produced by up-cyclers, resellers, or manufacturers anywhere in the world.

With Textura's help, BBM was able to safely, ethically, and sustainably destroy our client's apparel to be repurposed and given a new life for future clothing manufacturing. The impacts of creating a closed-loop circular economy are great, reducing landfill waste while also expanding the recycled clothing market, helping change attitudes and purchasing behaviours to minimise over consumption. For an individual, donating clothes to charities and op shops is a great way to clear out wardrobes. But for businesses, items like apparel, branded campaign-specific clothing, uniforms and more are better being destroyed and recycled due to their nature and large quantities. This solution is one that has many benefits, and BBM will continue to support circular economy practises like this when coming across similar issues in the future. Buckner Brand Management is committed to 'Making Good Things Happen', so we will always make sure the job is done the right way.
