As a well-known national childcare provider operating centres across Australia, this client required a consistent and brand-compliant uniform solution for staff and children. Faced with an upcoming replenishment cycle, Buckner Brand Management identified an opportunity to enhance the existing product, delivering stronger brand visibility and greater differentiation without adding cost to a custom manufactured item.
The situation
Buckner Brand Management has supplied bucket hats for a national childcare provider as part of the staff and children’s uniform range for several years.
In 2024, the hat design followed the established style used in previous years:
- Navy bucket hat
- Embroidered logo
- Same colourway and design for both adults and children
- Custom dyed fabric to ensure colour consistency with the client’s brand
The hat performed well operationally, the design offered limited opportunity for visual engagement with children or differentiation between staff and children.
The challenges
When quoting the 2025 hat replenishment, BBM proposed a design enhancement to bring more vibrancy and flexibility to the uniform range while maintaining cost efficiency.
Because the hats already required custom dyeing to match the client’s brand colour, there was no material cost difference to dye the fabric green or other colours. This opened an opportunity to introduce a more engaging design without significant cost escalation.
BBM presented several concepts to the client, including:
- Coloured hat options instead of navy
- Sublimated print hats for more vibrant designs
- Reversible hats to maximise usability
- Separate colour options for adults and children
The solution
The client selected a reversible bucket hat design with a sublimated interior print to refresh and enhance their current product offering to allow for stronger brand visibility and adult uniform differentiation compared to the children’s attire.
The new production method allowed BBM to offer different colourways for adults and children, which was not possible with the original navy-only design.
The upgrade transformed a standard uniform item into a functional and branded product that enhances the childcare environment while maintaining strong cost efficiency for a custom manufactured item.
